Delhi
The mountain road from Dharamsala to Shimla takes 5 to 6 hours. Manali roads from Kullu can be slow. June to August in the Himalayas is genuinely pleasant, one of the best times for this trip, while Delhi is best avoided in peak summer heat during May and June.

Amritsar is the trip’s second stop, roughly 6 hours by road from Delhi, so flying directly into Amritsar skips that transfer entirely.

Fly into Delhi to join the journey and depart from Delhi at the end. Travellers flying direct from the UK can instead join at Amritsar, the trip’s second stop, and skip the Delhi–Amritsar road transfer.
